What is Under Floor Heating?

underfloor heating is a central heating system that has been around since the days of the early Romans. Though the first under floor heating systems were quite primitive, they were nevertheless effective. They used huge fires to circulate hot air through underground ducts, which would then heat the entire room.

But as you might expect, under floor heating has come a long way since then and no longer requires fire or underground ducts. In fact, it is one of the most efficient ways to heat your home. On average, a family can save anywhere from ten to twenty per cent on their energy bills.

So why is under floor heating still seen as a luxury item? Perhaps it’s because it can be expensive to install, especially if you have to tear up the floor. If this is the case, you will have to remove the tiles or wood, install the heating pads or cable, and then put in a whole new floor. This will undoubtedly cost you a pretty penny.

However, if you install under floor heating while your home is being built, it won’t cost much at all. It may even be possible for you to recoup your investment just on energy savings in the first year alone. And if you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can always put in the unit on your own. This could save you thousands of pounds on installation fees from a professional electrician.
